How to Use PDF to Images
- Step 1: Upload PDF document
- Step 2: Choose format (PNG/JPEG) and DPI resolution
- Step 3: Render and download images
Technical Specifications & Limitations
- Maximum file size: Up to 50 MB.
- Resolution options: 150 DPI (standard digital preview) and 300 DPI (high-resolution print quality).
- Color space: Renders in standard sRGB. CMYK color profiles are mapped to sRGB for accurate browser display.
- ZIP archiving: Multi-page conversions are bundled into a ZIP file to avoid triggering dozens of browser download popups.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
⚠300 DPI conversion causes the browser to run out of memory.
At 300 DPI, an A4 page is approximately 2480x3508 pixels (~35 MB uncompressed bitmap per page). For documents longer than 10 pages, choose 150 DPI or convert smaller page ranges.
⚠Text appears slightly blurry in exported images.
Ensure you selected 300 DPI for high-detail vector text, or export in lossless PNG format rather than lossy JPEG.
⚠Images only downloaded for the first page.
Check your browser's download manager for the generated `.zip` archive containing the remaining page images.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between PNG and JPEG export?
PNG is lossless and keeps text, diagrams, and sharp line art crisp without compression artifacts. JPEG produces smaller file sizes and is best for photographic pages.
Can I extract the actual photos inside a PDF instead of rendering whole pages?
Yes! Use our 'Extract PDF Images' tool to pull the raw, original embedded image files without rendering whole page backgrounds.
Are my converted images uploaded to SciHive?
Never. Rendering is handled entirely inside your web browser using HTML5 Canvas and WebAssembly. Nothing is sent to our servers.
