Technical Specifications & Limits

  • Maximum file size: Up to 50 MB.
  • Already-compressed files: Images that have already undergone maximum compression may yield negligible savings or slight size increases if re-encoded at 100% quality.
  • Transparency: Converting a transparent PNG to JPEG will flatten transparent areas onto a white background.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

⚠Compression resulted in 0% or negative savings.

Your source image was already heavily compressed. Lower the quality slider to 75% or switch target format to WebP for superior entropy encoding.

⚠JPEG export shows black backgrounds where transparency was.

The JPEG standard does not support alpha channels. Choose WebP or PNG as your target format to keep transparency.

🔒Privacy & Security Guarantee

All image processing for Image Compressor executes 100% locally inside your web browser sandbox. Your images and personal media are never uploaded to any remote server or stored in the cloud. Confidentiality is preserved for creative assets, personal portraits, and proprietary corporate media.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the recommended quality setting for websites?

Between 75% and 82% quality delivers over 60–80% file size reduction with imperceptible visual difference to human eyes.

Does this tool resize the image dimensions?

By default, dimensions are preserved. You can specify maximum width/height constraints or use our dedicated Image Resizer tool.

Why does SciHive report truthful size increases?

Unlike dishonest tools that fake 70% savings, we measure exact binary blob sizes. If an already-compressed image cannot be reduced further, we display the true metric.
